Our family went on a seven day cruise to Alaska just before school started. We took over 600 pictures and probably gained about 10 pounds altogether. It was a great trip and although I wish I could share everything, I'll just give you a snapshot of our trip. Some of you have already seen some of these pictures but I added a few more details here on Xanga. If you'd like to see even more (but not all) of our pictures, here's a link you can go to

Pilot Training 101 - As soon as Austin got on board the pilots greeted him and asked if he wanted to take a look inside the cockpit. The pilots told him he could do anything he wanted so Austin started playing with the controls. He was having so much fun until one of the buttons he pushed made a loud beeping noise. Austin and I freaked out but the pilot said it was fine and not to worry. After that, Austin was out of there. We told him he could stay longer but I think he thought he did something wrong so he wanted out of that cockpit.

On our way to Seattle

Our first night in Alaska. It was about 9pm and still light out.

Our home for the next 7 days..... (it was actually the largest room out of all the cruise ships we've been on)

Our first stop was in Juneau where we went on a whale watching tour and saw the Mendenhall Glacier. It was raining most of the time and I was so thankful that we had bought rain gear for the entire family before we left.

We saw lots of whales. It was funny because having just gone to Sea World we were kind of expecting to see whales jumping out of the water but it turns out you're lucky if you even see this much.

The Mendenhall Glacier

Poor Sam never got to see a bear but at least he got to see this. Gross!

Our second stop was in Skagway where we got to walk around town and take a three hour train ride. It was awesome and not surprisingly Austin's favorite part of the trip.
The White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad

For a while now we've been collecting these as souvenirs for Austin
wherever we go. I like them because their cheap and Austin gets a kick
out of them. He has a special book just for these pennies. So far he's
collected over twenty of them from different places.

Although the weather was very chilly we were able go swimming a few times. The first time we swam, it was about 50 degrees and raining. The water was slightly heated so we were alright. Every once in a while we would have to put our faces in the water to warm them up. Getting out of the pool was a different story. It was a mad dash for our towels and straight to the 24 hour buffet to get some hot chocolate.

While cruising from one place to another we saw so many beautiful sights. One of my favorites is of this blue iceberg.

Our third stop was in Ketchiken where we saw a Lumber Jack show and went sightseeing around town. This was probably my favorite town to visit but it was also the shortest stop on our trip. We stopped by their museum, library, ate kettle corn, and visited their local post office.

The lumber jack and jills gave Austin a souvenir from the show but we had to leave it in Alaska. We knew it would neither fit in our luggage nor would it qualify as a carry on.

The museum which is also attached to their library. Austin actually got to sit in on the library's story time while Sam finished up at the museum.

The post office. I brought along some stamps from home. Thank goodness Alaska is part of the good ol' U.S.

Our last stop was in Victoria, Canada but unfortunately we were unable to deboard. The waves were too rough to let people off the ship so we all stayed in.
We sent Austin to the Fun Zone a few times during the course of the cruise and this is what they did to him one night.

Oh well, I guess every ship needs a pirate!

Passing time watching Tom & Jerry, one of his favorite cartoons. If you ever want to hear Austin laugh hysterically, watch Tom & Jerry, America's Funniest Home Videos or Wipeout with him.

"I came all the way to Alaska to do ride a bike!"

Since an Alaska cruise is mainly about seeing the sights, we were outside a lot. The weather was pretty cold so we typically wore about 3-4 layers of clothing. Here's poor Austin on a particularly cold day. The ship provided these outdoor blankets.

"I'm so tired from looking at all those glaciers....."

Thanks to my mom and dad who gave us this cruise for our 7th wedding anniversary. We've all come to love cruising!

Spending time with family was wonderful. The sights of Alaska were magnificent. The excursions were great. The activities on the ship were fun. But the best part of cruising for me can be summed up by the next few pictures....
